The mission statement of Douglas Church is for all members to be:
~ LOVING GOD
We strive to hold our relationship with God as the highest priority. We desire to love Him with our whole heart, whole mind, whole soul, and whole strength (Deuteronomy 6:5). We believe that God desires a personal relationship with every human being, a relationship strengthened as we spend time with Him in worship, prayer, and scripture reading, among other disciplines. We believe that God loves us so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, as the sacrifice for our sin. We seek to grow in our love for Him throughout our daily lives and encourage one another in that journey.
~ LOVING OTHERS
An outflow of our love for God and His love for us is the love we have for others. "Others" can be our family, friends, neighbors, church family, strangers, or even enemies (Matthew 5:44 and Mark 12:31). We believe that loving others well not only honors God, but it helps to point the person in the direction of their own loving relationship with God. We cannot love others (or ourselves) if we have not first loved God. We show our love for others through physical means (providing various resources for those in need), spiritual means (ongoing prayer support), and relational means (walking with each other through the difficult times of life).
~ SHARING THE GOSPEL
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope for this lost and broken world. We believe in God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit (three-in-one, the Triune God). We believe that Jesus' death on the cross was the perfect atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, that Jesus rose victoriously from the grave on the third day, and that He lives today! Those who confess with their mouths and believe in their hearts that Jesus died and rose again are saved for an eternity with Him (Romans 10:9). We desire for ALL to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus as Savior of their soul and Lord of their life. We share the gospel through our words (witness & prayer), our actions (mission work), and our lives (discipleship). We believe that the scriptures of the Bible are God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training (II Timothy 3:16)
~ GROWING THE KINGDOM
Followers of Christ are called to be consistently growing in their faith through Bible reading, prayer, and service. We encourage one another to develop deeper faith and then share that faith to make other disciples of Jesus Christ so that the world can experience positive change. Children and youth are an important piece in the discipleship plan, as they are the future of God's Church. We desire to be a church where believers of any age can plant themselves to grow in faith, grace, and truth. We believe God's kingdom is at its best when believers are focused on the Lord's will and purposes.
